Arthritis and Adult Stem Cells….can they help?
Arthritis, a major issue for people and animals is painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints. Inflammation is part of the body’s response as a protective mechanism to remove damaged cells, irritants, and infection from an area to start a healing process.
The pain from arthritis occurs due to:
Inflammation around the joint.
Damage to the joint from disease (e.g. rheumatoid).
Daily wear and tear of the joint.
Muscle strains from forceful movements against stiff and painful joints.
There are over 100 different forms of Arthritis, the most common form is Osteoarthritis.
So What is Osteoarthritis?
It is a degenerative joint disease where the joints are breaking down faster than the body can repair them.
Osteoarthritis is often the result of: Injury e.g. accident, Repetitive use; Infection of the joint; it is also often a result of ageing, and general wear and tear.
As you can see below Osteoarthritis begins in the cartilage and eventually leads to the two opposing bones eroding into each other.
In many cases, mine included, the treatment offered for Osteoarthritis is simply the management of pain and that can start a whole new range of issues!
How Can Adult Stem Cells Help Arthritis?
Our Adult Stem Cells are, the body’s natural repair system
Research now shows that the body heals itself via the migration of adult stem cells from the bone marrow. These adult stem cells can become virtually any type of cell in the body. When cells are damaged they release a compound that calls adult stem cells to the damage.
Once the adult stem cell reaches that area the stem cells can turn into that tissue and become more of it, therefore providing the opportunity for renewal and or repair to be carried out.
For example, in Arthritis, Adult stem cells can become Chondrocytes. Chondrocytes are the cells that produce new cartilage;
Adult stem cells can become new bone cells; Adult stem cells have also been directly linked with an increase of Lubricin (a protein found in joint fluid that acts like a shock absorber).
Adult stem cells can be very beneficial in both, the prevention and management of Arthritis.
The more Adult Stem Cells we have in circulation the more the potential exists for greater repair!
Scientific studies have revealed that once people are over the age of approx. 25 years their natural adult stem cell migration slows by 5% per year, that means by age 50 our adult stem cell migration has decreased by 50% which means much less repair is being carried out and issues like arthritis begin to manifest
Can we change the rate of our adult stem cell migration?
There are daily activities that can assist with adult stem cell migration, albeit small numbers.
- Daily Exercise (can be an issue if you have arthritic joints!)
- Eating a healthy balanced diet
- Reducing Stress
- Sleeping soundly
In 2007 a group of scientists offered a product for clinical trial that they believed had a significant impact on adult stem cell migration.
It was a Triple-Blind Randomized Placebo Controlled Study of the Effect of StemEnhance on Bone Marrow Stem Cell Mobilization
The findings of the clinical trial proved their reason and theory….
And that was by combining extracts of some of the following plants, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, Fucoidan – an extract from – Undaria Pinnatifida, into a supplement capsule that is easily taken once or twice a day.
This all natural, plant based, set of extracts in this supplement form, will increase the release of Adult Bone Marrow Stem Cells by up to 30 percent for 3 hours producing truly amazing results.
Adult stem cells can be very beneficial in both the prevention and management of arthritis. Increasing the number of circulating adult stem cells can increase the level of repair, so doesn’t it make sense to do all we can to increase our adult stem cell numbers.
That can be done as the clinical trial has shown by simply consuming a couple of capsules once or twice a day!
Our bodies are truly amazing aren’t they, give it what it needs and it knows how to the rest!
